Unexpected Grief During Travel

Grief is not something we human like to talk about. It makes us uncomfortable, and if we’re the ones sharing, we hesitate because we don’t want to make others feel uncomfortable. At least, I know that’s the case for me. If you didn’t know, I am the middle child in my family. I have an older brother and a younger sister. Or should I say, I had an older brother. In November of 2015, my brother passed away unexpectedly. A lot of what happened that night and the following few weeks are a blur. Death in general is devastating – no one tells a family how to function when they lose their 25 year old son and brother. As time goes on, grief comes in waves. Sometimes it’s expected; sometimes it’s not. Today, I’m sharing my stories of unexpected grief during travel.

Mood Monday: Best Piece of Advice I’ve Received

Happy Monday, and welcome back to another Mood Monday! Today, I’m sharing the best piece of advice I received (and relatively recent too). It’s super basic and simple advice, but for some reason, it really stuck with me and altered the way I view things now – including my blogging journey.

Feature Friday: Moving to Colombia

Since the beginning of travel, people have considered living in a different country than that of the place they were born or call home. I know for me personally, I have considered and definitely do want to live in France at some point in my life. When we’re younger, we think it’s as easy as getting a passport, packing your bags, and purchasing a one-way ticket. Haha – oh how we were wrong. With so many people pursuing the option of moving to a different country nowadays (I’ve seen several people on my Instagram relocate to Mexico), I think it’s important to recognize there is a lot of planning and consideration that goes into moving countries. And who better than Alia to talk to us about her experience moving to Colombia!

Birthday Behavior: Sarasota Edition

Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets to the various sites I visited; however, these are my honest opinions.

Last year on my birthday, I took a trip to New Orleans and it was so much fun! I decided then that I was going to try and turn it into a tradition and take a trip on my birthday every year. This year, my mission was simple: go to where the sun shines. So it was no surprise that I found myself in the Sunshine State, more specifically, spending a weekend in Sarasota, Florida. Even though there was sporadic rain throughout my time there, I had so much fun and could not get enough of the warmer temperatures!

PHeature Friday: Nurse in Canada During COVID

Hi there, and welcome to the first PHeature Friday, where we highlight various public health topics. As a public health professional myself, who is interested in health communications, I thought this was a perfect way to combine my passion for travel and public health. Our first guest for the series is my good friend, Sydney, who is a nurse in Canada. Today, she’s sharing her perspective on the pandemic as a frontline worker, specifically a nurse in Canada during COVID. Everything she shares is her viewpoint and does not necessarily represent the stance of the hospital she works for, nor is she giving anyone any medical advice! Alright – let’s get to it then:

Mood Monday: Imposter Syndrome

Defined by Merriam-Webster, Imposter Syndrome is “a psychological condition that is characterized by persistent doubt concerning one’s abilities or accomplishments accompanied by the feat or being exposed as a fraud despite evidence of one’s ongoing success”. We each have our own way of defining it and identifying it in our own lives. Today I’m sharing why we’re speaking about Imposter Syndrome, how I identify it in my life, and the realization I came to regarding the topic.

Feature Friday: Giraffe Manor

Happy Friday and welcome back to Feature Friday! When people think of travelling to Kenya, a lot of people dream of visiting the Giraffe Manor – at least I know I do. An exclusive boutique hotel that showcases giraffes as part of the experience is sure to draw travellers from all over the world. From social media, it seems as if the giraffes are literally right there with you during your stay – from dining with you through the window to seeing them living their life right outside your hotel room window. It truly seems like an experience of a lifetime. I haven’t been to the Giraffe Manor yet, but I did reach out to Keisha of @_keisha_la and Daniel of @distinctiontravels to share their experiences from visiting. Let’s see what they have to say:

The Future of Travel: The Vaccine Passport

The future of travel is so uncertain nowadays as we navigate our new normal. Although people are still travelling, guidance is constantly changing. A few weeks ago, I saw Qantas announced it will be required for their passengers to be vaccinated in order to fly with them. I only saw the news title, as I didn’t have time to read in that moment, but I had a slew of questions. What exactly does that mean? Is that only for international flights, or is it for domestic as well? Are other airlines following suit? How are people going to prove their vaccination status? Will there be a vaccine passport? When does this go into effect? What if you already have a flight booked? All these questions led me to research for some more information, and this is what I found:

Misadventure Monday: When Lost in Rome

Welcome to the Misadventure Monday series, where I share what went wrong during my travels. It may have been something little, or it may have impacted the entirety of the trip. You’ll have to keep tuning back here to know. Today, I’m sharing about a mishap during my first solo trip. I went to Europe, visiting various cities in France, Italy, and Belgium. So many experiences and emotions took place during this trip; however, this story takes place from the train leaving France to finding my Airbnb in Rome.

On Mood Mondays, I’ll be sharing thoughts that are weighing on my heart. Some that have been with me for decades, but just haven’t shared. Others that may be more recent.
